Socially Responsible Investment  (SRI)

What is SRI ?

The incorporation of an investor's personal values, principles and beliefs into the investment decision-making process. This results in an investment strategy that takes into account a company's ethical, social and environmental performance as well as its financial performance.

What is the mission of ecomonie ?

economie aims to help create a world where investment with social, environmental and ethical consideration is the universal norm. economie believes, as a matter of principle, that each individual should be able to invest in a way that reflects his or her personal values. Perhaps more importantly, economie believes that together we can take charge of our monetary power to build a future in which prosperity doesn't rely on the impoverishment of others, despoiling the environment or fuelling conflict. economie aims to achieve this by raising global awareness of socially responsible investment, by transforming attitudes and, more specifically, by increasing public access to expert SRI advice.

How does economie work ?

economie have developed accreditation for SRI practitioners in the form of the internationally recognised Kitemark exams, and work as an ethical investment advisory organisation which supports and trains a nationwide network of ethical financial advisors, without dependence or bias to any one particular group or firm. The UK's first SRI kitemark accreditation means economie can offer investors a unique and comprehensive service - putting investors in touch with a qualified financial advisor with proven specialist knowledge of socially responsible investment within your any locality to matchr specific requirements.

Who is behind economie ?

economie and global partners is a global team of trained and experienced specialists in the field of SRI. economie was founded by Brian Harrison Spence.

Brian started his career in 1971 doing VSO as member of the Community Education for the Young European, participating in a Unesco project on Global Warming and Climate Change.

In the 70s and early 80s he worked as a social worker specialising in maladjusted and dysfunctional children. His interest in business and finance then led Brian into the financial services field. He retrained and worked as the Financial Consultant for Wales for the British Medical Association. Brian worked as a fund manager for Tomkinson, investing money on behalf of clients within Insurance Company Bond Funds. He founded economie in 2005.

economie 06 is the annual conference of economie and this year, the first year, promises to be one of the most exciting and worthwhile events on the annual SRI and CSR calendar.

SAVE the DATE!! 19 - 20 October 2006

This meeting of the most important minds in the SRI world will bring together businesses, academics, non-profits and a wide range of individuals who are seeking to learn, teach, infuence and simply be part of the most important financial trend in business today: how money is invested in order to protect and enhance world sustainability.

The conference schedule includes a formidable array of international speakers such as John Renesch, the acclaimed San Francisco based business futurist, bestselling economist Noreena Hertz, the bestselling international author and academic and Amy Domini, Founder and Managing Principal with Domini Social Investments

The varied and intensive eco6 programme has been designed to pack as much as possible into two days, to address different interests and to maximise opportunities for learning and meeting others.

The key themes of eco6 are

“SRI – just another marketing ploy?”

and

“CSR – fact or fiction?”

Is it realistic to add a light green touch to all of our internal investment funds? How can ‘greening’ all financial institution internal funds improve both our bottom line and enhance our company image? How can we attract shareholders for the long term rather than a short term punt? How can I reconcile SRI with my fiduciary responsibilities as a charity trustee? Will a sustainable environmental policy and ethical employment practices make our company less competitive?

The conference expects to bring lively debate around all of these issues and more.
